THE INITIAL APPROACH
EXPECTATIONS
Expect to play well, obviously! A good expectation is the basis for a good game. At this point if you did everything that has been suggested in this book, you have a solid start and advantage over your golf buddies who most likely haven’t done the work you did. By having this in consideration, whatever outcome you find during the round, will be in your favour even if it’s bad.
Look at this way, if it’s a bad outcome you know, then you will be able to approach with a higher probability of having a good result in the end, if not, then it’s something new you've just learned and prepared you for the next time it shows up. Be confident, the internal confidence gives you the directions you need to link your thinking to the clarity of what needs to be done, the more confident you are, the more clear the solutions will pop in your head.
Frustration and disappointment deteriorate any confidence you may have built up to this point so, since you know that bad shots will happen and situations will be out of control time to time, don’t give room in your mind to root them. You have a plan, you know your game, you have a direction therefore, concentrate on what needs to be done and accept the results as they appear.
Everything in golf changes constantly, the game is never the same and it’s extremely difficult but, always remember the progress you were able to achieve and rejoice the good shots, forget the bad ones. In order to have an idea of how far you’ve come, look at the beginners trying to hit the golf ball in the driving range.
You have come this far, recognize your progress and give credit to yourself for this, as you create this self respect others will start respecting and admiring your game too and that’s when you realise that the best of you is on the field walking at your side and helping you to play the best golf you’ve ever played before.
